Here is the latest update on the new parcel shipping arrangements which will come into effect from 30th September 2024. In February last year, the Government and the EU agreed on the Windsor Framework. This included future changes to the current arrangements for sending parcels from Great Britain to Northern Ireland.
The Madeira team is committed to ensuring a smooth transition for this change. To achieve this goal, it‘s important that we accurately classify the goods we are sending.
There are two classifications for goods:
‘At Risk’ – goods will not be able to use the Green Lane under the Windsor Framework, which means duty will be applied (the buyer is responsible for paying duty and import costs).
‘Not at Risk’ – goods that are not at risk of onward movement to the EU will not be subject to duty when entering Northern Ireland.
To provide further clarification, if the goods purchased from Madeira UK will be used solely for your own internal processing, they can be classified as ‘not at risk’. However, if your intention is to move the Madeira product into the EU without using it in your business operations, this would be classified as ‘at risk’.
We therefore require all customers based in Northern Ireland to confirm whether the goods will be categorised as ‘at risk’ (meaning the finished goods will be moved into the EU) or ‘not at risk’ (indicating that the finished goods will remain in the UK). This information is essential for our processing and compliance purposes.
We do not anticipate any changes to the service levels or pricing for shipping based on these new rules. We are simply looking to ensure we can continue to give great value and service to you, our customer.
